Sustainable production of Polyhydroxyalkanoates via bacterial fermentation

It is possible to produce natural bioplastics via bacterial fermentation. These plastics can then be extracted and purified and used for a vast array of applications including the packaging industry, personal care sector, for 3D printing and biomedical applications. The process is sustainable and use the bacteria can utilise waste products. I have been heavily involved in the upscaling of this process to produce two specific medium chain length (flexible) and short chain length (stiff) PHAs for use in biomedical applications as well as the cosmetics industry. With our proprietary technology we are currently aiming to spin off a company currently known as PHAsT.
