Self-Motile Micromotors

During my PhD I worked extensively with self-motile micromotors. My work predominantly was on platinum coated polystyrene colloids that were coated spun cast on glass slides and then platinum coated via E-Beam Evaporation as shown below in the movie.

Symmetrical Catalytically Active Colloids Collectively Induce Convective Flow

In our recent publication we look at different volume fractions of symetrical catalytially active platinum coated polystyrene colloids. This work demonstrates the importance of keeping samples dilute when trying to measure propulsion of catalytically actggive particles as otherwise potentially undesierable convective flow and pumping effects occur.
